BACH WORLD TOUR
Welcome to the website of my Bach World Tour!
In August 2007 I embarked on a worldwide concert tour devoted to the music of Bach. It celebrated the wonderful voyage I began in 1994 when I undertook to record all of Bach’s major keyboard works for Hyperion Records—a project that took eleven years to complete. The 14-month tour, which ran until the end of October 2008, covered some 25 countries on six continents.
The major part of the tour was devoted to performances of the complete Well-Tempered Clavier in two recitals. The performances were often accompanied by a masterclass or lecture. To hear the 48 Preludes and Fugues played live in concert is an unforgettable experience, and one which many listeners said was the experience of a lifetime.
To coincide with the tour, Hyperion Records released a DVD entitled Bach Performance on the Piano in which I share with music lovers around the world the knowledge and experience I have gained in all the years of studying Bach’s music. This DVD is for sale on this website. Please go to the "DVD" page. There you will also find the Souvenir Programme--a very special publication which is in fact a retrospect of my life and career so far.
The Bach World Tour was a unique experience in my life which I will never forget. My thanks goes to all those promoters around the world who had the faith and vision to present it; to my agents who worked hard to make it happen; to my sponsors Richard Robinson (who created such beautiful dresses for me) and Paolo Fazioli (who made sure I had the best pianos to play on as often as possible); to my audiences who carried me along and who made it all worthwhile; and to Johann Sebastian Bach for writing music that is of such everlasting beauty.
